Outside looking in.

A great many of my photographs are from the outside looking in.  I like the mixture of reflections and unfolding stories.  There's a part of me that feels like I'm watching a play or a film. Photography from the street I guess you could call it.

Cafes are the best. Wondering who the people are and what their story is.

Even empty cafes are fab through the window.   But looking at a wedding from the outside really is like watching a play. The clothes, the colours, all brighter than ordinary life.

Football

In the goal

Football is centre stage as World Cup 2014 arrives.  So many things to photograph around football.  The fans, the shirts, the paraphernalia.  There is no other game that evokes as much human emotion as football.  It gets in your veins.  It doesn't matter whether you're playing at your local park, in the street or at Old Trafford.

Buskers are the stuff of street photography

Busker on the Bridge from an exhibition at Harvey's Wine Cellar, Bristol.

I love taking pictures of buskers. Street photography wouldn't be the same without them. I find them fascinating, courageous people.  Laying themselves bare for the world to see and judge their act.  Bristol is teeming with street performers. It gives vibrancy, life and energy to a city. Most buskers perform at the harbour side.  There is always someone to make you stop and watch as you pass by.

Outside Arnolfini

I have been meeting my friends outside Arnolfini for the past 23 years.  I guess most people who live in Bristol have been doing the same thing.  There are always loads of interesting people hanging around, busking, drinking beer, sunbathing, staring at the water.  Sometimes The Mods are there with their parkas and gleaming mopeds. But there's always life happening outside Arnolfini.
